$1000 WSOP Event to Return in 2010
September 3, 2009
The $1000 buy in event that was introduced during the 2008 WSOP is planned to return at the 2010 WSOP as it was very popular.
There are a lot of changes being planned for the 2010 WSOP. The $40K event will be removed from the schedule due to its poor number of participants this year. Instead the people behind the World Series of Poker seem to be targeting the small time players as they are planning to add a couple of $1000 buy in events that first showed up during the 2008 WSOP.
The $1000 buy in event that was held in 2008 had 6000 available seats and two starting days and sold out very quickly. The WSOP team took notice of this and are planning to schedule a couple of these events in 2010, six of them to be exact. This means that there will be a lot of reasons for the small time players to visit the 2010 WSOP but the question is how popular these events will be amongst the real poker pro’s.
Maratonas making a comeback at FullTilt
September 3, 2009
At the start of his career at Full Tilt Poker Maratonas was winning huge amounts of money at the $500/$1000 tables. Even though he started out great, winning over $1 million he ended up making a big loss at the noosebleed levels at FullTilt. A while later he was spotted playing lower limits at FullTilt such as $50/$100.
But now it seems like the online poker phenomenon Maratonas is making a comeback at the highest levels at Full Tilt Poker. This morning he was spotted at the $200/$400 PLO tables at FullTilt. After this mornings session it will probably be a while before he is back at the $500/$1000 levels since he lost most of the pots that he was involved in at the $200/$400 level. Amongst the players who won money from the anonymous Swede this morning we could find names like OMGClayAiken and trex313.
It will be interesting to see if Maratonas can ever make it back to the higest levels at Full Tilt Poker.
You can watch Maratonas play at the high stakes tables by creating an account at Full Tilt Poker, check out our Full Tilt Poker rakeback offer for the best deal at the second largest online poker room in the world.
UltimateBet Releases Mac Poker Software
September 1, 2009
Even though most online poker rooms are trying to reach out to as many people as possible there is one group that is always neglected by the poker industry, the Mac owners.
If you wanted to play online poker using a Mac a couple of years ago it was near impossible without using a third party software. But lately more and more poker rooms have started to realise that even Mac owners make for good poker players.
UltimateBet is one of the poker rooms that have started targeting the Mac owners by launching a version of their poker software just for Mac owners. As from today you will be able to download this Mac software from the UltimateBet website. Apperantly there are a lot of players who have been requesting this software and that’s why they finally decided to give in and add this feature.
PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are two of the market leaders and they launched a Mac version of the poker software several years ago with huge success. Here you can find a full list of Mac Poker sites.
Doyle Brunson Suggest a Hall of Shame
September 1, 2009
The Poker Hall of Fame is something that all poker players dream of being icluded in. But the poker legend Doyle Brunson have now suggested that a Poker Hall of Shame should be added.
In his blog over at DoylesRoom he suggests that the Poker Hall of Shame should be introduced and include players who abuse the dealers at the tables and their opponents in one way or another.
Doyles nominees for the Poker Hall of Shame are
- Puggy Pearson
- John “Doc” Holliday
- Nick “Shoeshine” Simpson
- “Nigger Nate” Lanette
- Stu Ungar
- Nick Vacchiano
Now we just have to wait and see if this will become reality one day or if it is just Doyle’s way of telling the poker players to be a bit nicer at the tables.
Mike Sexton to Poker Hall of Fame?
September 1, 2009
If it was up to Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu, Mike Sexton would be voted in to the Poker Hall of Fame this year.
The nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame this year are: Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Tom McEvoy, Men Nguyen, Scotty Nguyen, Eric Seidel, Daniel Negreanu and Mike Sexton.
Brunson and Negreanu have made it very clear that they are going to vote for Mike Sexton when the time comes and in all honesty we have to say that it is hard to argue with them.
Sexton have been playing at the highest levels of poker since forever and even more importantly is that he is the best ambassador for the game of poker in a long time.
He has been the main commentator for WPT, spokesman for PartyPoker and written articles for just about all of the large poker magazines out there.
Us at Online Poker News would like to thank Mike Sexton for all of his contributions to the game of poker and wish him the best of luck in the upcoming Poker Hall of Fame election.
David Benyamine regains his ”Red Pro” status
August 30, 2009
Lately we have seen David Benyamine playing at Full Tilt Poker under his own name and with his own avatar which means that he is once again a member of the FullTilt Red Pro Team. It is still not clear if he is only a Red Pro player or if he is also a sponsored member of Team FullTilt.
In order to get one of these Red Pro sponsorships you usually have to be a member of Team FullTilt but Benyamine is yet to be listed on that section of FullTilt Poker.
Benyamine lost his Red Pro status at the end of last year and he was rumored to be in negotiations with several other poker sites. Most people thought he would show up as a sponsored player at PokerStars or Betfair but no such sponsorship was made. Benyamine continued to play online poker at Full Tilt Poker after he lost his Red Pro status but under the screen name ”MR B 2 U SON”. After the change to that account he went on a huge losing streak and when he stopped using that account in July it showed a total loss of $1.5 million.
But that is all in the past and he is now using the old account with screen name ”David Benyamine” when playing at Full Tilt Poker.
The reason behind Benyamine losing his Red Pro status was never made public. He was only spotted wearing Full Tilt Poker gear at the 2009 WSOP one time.
Whatever the problems have been between Benyamine and Full Tilt Poker it seems to have been solved now.
PokerStars signs Joe Cada
August 28, 2009
Joe Cada is one of the players that have been fortunate enough to become one of the final nine players in the 2009 WSOP Main Event. It was recently made public that PokerStars have managed to sign the November Nine player Joe Cada and he will be playing at the final table wearing PokerStars clothing. Joe Cada is the youngest player on the final table.
Four out of the last six Main Event winners have been sponsored by PokerStars and it will be very interesting to see if Joe Cada can make it five out of seven for PokerStars. After signing for PokerStars it will probably be a pretty good payday for Joe no matter what placement he gets at the final table considering they are the biggest poker site on the internet.
“I am proud to represent PokerStars and i look forward to being a part of their team“, said Joe Cada in an interview.
2009 November Nine Player Signs Sponsorship Deal
August 27, 2009
The French poker player Antoine Saout qualified for the 2009 WSOP at the online poker site EverestPoker.com and this November he is one of the final nine players who will return to the felt to battle it out for the Main Event bracelet.
Here at Online Poker News we have written about this player before when we reported about the million dollar payout to the Everest Poker qualifiers due to his final table placement.
Antoine is now a full feathered sponsored pro at Everest Poker which means that he will be playing tournaments wearing Everest Poker clothing and he will also be a part of the Team Everest Poker who are going to play in various tournaments on the poker tour.
On the seventh of November Antoine Saout will return to Las Vegas and the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table where he is going to face players like Phil Ivey and Jeff Shulman. Saout is one of the players with the least amount of chips at the final table.
Bet on 2009 WSOP Final Table
August 27, 2009
Betfair claims that over $20.000 have been placed on the outcome of the 2009 WSOP Main Event and over half of this money is on Phil Ivey to take down his first Main Event bracelet.
The favorite to win the tournament is the chipleader Darvin Moon who is currently paying the odds 4.3. The super celebrity Phil Ivey who is starting the final table with only a sixth of Darvin’s chip stack is also one of the bigger favorites to win with the odds 7.4.
James Akenhad is one of the short stacks with only 7 million in chips at the final table but more people are betting on him to win rather than the other short stack, Antoine Saout from France.
You can check out the latest prices for the 2009 WSOP at Betfair.com.
Betfair is based in England and does not accept US customers so if you want to place a bet on the 2009 WSOP Main Event we suggest you head over to a good US Bookmaker such as Bodog.com or PlayersOnly.com.
Truck Driver Wins $200.000 in the first episode of “Face the Ace”
August 27, 2009
The first episode of the new poker show “Face the Ace” was broadcasted last week and one of the two contestants knocked out Howard Lederer and Erick Lindgren in the same episode.
If he manages to win his third and final match this week he is going to leave the show with one million dollars in cold hard cash.
Each contestant has the chance to win $1.000.000 in prize money, but to get there is no walk in the park. If the contestant knocks out one player he will have won $40.000, for two wins he will get $200.000 and for three wins the maximum payout of $1 million is awarded to the contestant. All of the professional poker players that the contestants are up against are members of Team FullTilt Poker which means that they can at any point find themselves facing players like Phil Ivey or Patrick Antonius.
After every match the contestant has the option to leave the competition and take the money that has been won, this might be a good move for some players as they will walk away empty handed should they lose one of their matches.
Dan Tropel, the truck driver who beat both Howard Lederer and Erick Lindgren in the premiere episode will be back to play for the million dollar first prize this coming Saturday. It will be very interesting to see which one of the Team FullTilt members he will face in the final match.
