PokerStars Holds on to World Record
July 20, 2009
Last week Full Tilt Poker announced that they intended to host the largest online poker tournament ever and by doing this they would break the world record held by PokerStars. The buy-in for this tournament was $5 and the prize pool was $500.000 which meant it has a huge value for those who participated.
PokerStars who was the current world record holder after hosting a tournament with 35.000 players in December refused to go down without a fight though so they announced their own record breaking tournament. The PokerStars tournament has a $1 buy in and a prize pool of $130.000 which meant great value for the players at PokerStars as well.
FullTilt Poker managed to fill up their tournament which was capped at 50.000 players. This was not enough however since PokerStars also managed to fill up their tournament which attracted 65.000 players.
This means that PokerStars is still the world record holder when it comes to hosting the worlds largest online poker tournament.

Full Tilt Poker Attempts to Break World Record Held by PokerStars
July 17, 2009
It was just a couple of months ago that PokerStars got their place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having hosted the largest online poker tournament in the world.
This coming Sunday it is time for their main competitor, Full Tilt Poker, to try to break that record. But to break the record won’t be a simple task. In order to break the record and take over PokerStars spot in the history books FullTiltPoker.com will need to gather up at least 35.000 players who will participate in this tourmanet. The biggest land based tourmament in history so far is the 2006 WSOP Main Event where 8.772 players participated.
In order to make this tournament as attractive as possible for the players the good folks at FullTilt have decided to add $250.000 to the prize pool that already has a guarantee of $250.000. This means that no matter how many players particpate in this tourmanet there will still me at least $500.000 in the prize pool.
The buy-in for this record breaking tournament is only $5 or 1000 FullTilt Points so there will be a lot of value in it for those who particpate.
To add even more spice to this tournament it has also been announced that several member of Team FullTilt Poker will participate in this tournament. Amongst the players who are already signed up for the tournament we can find some huge names such as Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer.
This record breaking attempt is the finale to the current “FIVE” promotion that is going on at FullTilt to celebrate their 5th anniversary.
For those of you who wants to help FullTilt write poker history the tournament will start at 15:05 EST on Sunday the 19th of July.
If you don’t have a real money account at FullTilt yet we suggest you use the Full Tilt Poker referral code EASYTILT when creating your account as this code will entitle you to a $600 bonus when you make your first deposit.

Wynn Las Vegas up for court case
July 14, 2009
News has it that the Wynn Las Vegas Strip casino and resort has been sued by three in house dealers. They are claiming that the casino was violating the federal labour when it came to their tip sharing policy laws. They also claim that the resort was requiring the said dealers to share tips with their respective supervisors thus not paying the dealers their due share.
This information was declared during the lawsuit which was filed last Thursday in U.S. District Court. The dealers’ lawyer stated that the resort management had a procedure of taking 15 percent to 20 percent of the daily pooled tips while the argument of the Wynn Las Vegas was that they hold the authority to distribute the tips in that way.
The claim of the casino dealers is that due to the tip-pooling system implemented by the resort back in 2006, their due tips were diverted away from them. The case is still pending as a lawsuit was filed in 2006 at the district court and then the case moved up to the Nevada Supreme Court ruling the Nevada labour commissioner.
Online Poker threatened with further Bank Seizures
July 14, 2009
Everyone knows how the US government has had propaganda against online gaming and now it has gone one step further by targeting and making business difficult for PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. These two online companies are the leaders in the business with the highest number of players and the government is concentrating its efforts to stop online gambling in the US through them as this would target so many online players.
First the UIGEA / Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and then the accounts controlled and seized which the government has profited from by over $30 million. This definitely created a stir in the States and millions of people in the US were affected by the seizure. The government seized and froze down bank accounts that were being used to pay out US players and with the online poker players now being faced with the hard legislations.
Although the details are not out as yet, the seizures are taking place again with two separate judges, Judge Theodore H. Katz, and Judge Henry B. Pitman having signed the warrant seizures. The government and their prosecutors are saying that the money that was seized is connected to money laundering but this has to be further proved in court if they proceed to a court order.
Harrah’s Poker Hall of Fame list released
July 12, 2009
The list of poker players that are up for consideration for the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame class have been announced this week. The Harrah’s list includes 10 big players such as Mike Sexton, Tom McEvoy and Phil Ivey. These 3 pros were pushed by the promotion of Party Poker while other pros such as Dan Harrington, Scotty Nguyen, Erik Seidel, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Barry Greenstein, Men Nguyen and Daniel Negreanu are also featuring on the list.
This list is made up of ten players to include the top ten players voted in by the public. At the moment the classification of actual positions is still unknown, so that the public will not be influenced and vote accordingly. Eventually those who receive enough votes from the voting panel, i.e. of the current members of the Hall of Fame and certain members of the Poker media will make it to the Hall of Fame.
The panel members can vote as many players as they want into the Hall of Fame but these must include only those who receive 75 percent or more of the entire panel’s approval list. The panel also holds the right to vote for a person who is not on the public list so we some new names may be added on by the council. We are all interested and curious to know more about which players will be voted in by the public and if any players are added to the Hall of Fame that were not on the original list.
Harrah’s has also released a press statement commenting on this:
“After a five week process that saw hundreds of votes cast weekly on WSOP.com, the public has made clear who they think should be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. It will now be up to the current Hall of Famers and a panel of media members to determine who actually does join this exclusive club.”
Finally, those selected players who are chosen to be added to the Poker Hall of Fame will go through an induction ceremony. This ceremony will take place at the Main event final table this November.
