Daniel Negreanu Challenged by Jealous Poker Player
April 25, 2010
Online poker player, Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti is stirring up buzz with a recent poker challenge he’s issued towards Daniel Negreanu. The challenge stems from Marafioti’s claims that if he had as much income as Negreanu, he would be a better poker players.
On his blog, Marafioti explained that he believes he is a more marketable poker player than Negreanu, living “a better life off poker” than the world famous poker pro who gets paid $2 million from PokerStars every year to keep him out of the hole. To prove his theory, he’s challenged Negreanu that he would pay him $500 per hour per table to sit opposite him. In addition, he issued a $100K prop bet that is dependent on the player who cashes more at the next 10 live events that both are participants of.
Matt said, “So in the future, unless you’re going to back it up, do not open your mouth in the 100/200 game on stars, because you’re awfully quiet when I see you in person. Just come speak with me face to face.”
Negreanu’s response earlier this week on his Poker Listings blog to Marafioti’s follows: “If I wasted my time responding to all the completely insane nut jobs on the Internet, I wouldn’t have enough hours in the day. He falls directly into that category of social misfit.”
Marafioti’s blog says that the challenge stands and that he would be interested in a $100K cage fight match. Negreanu is obviously not taking the comments seriously, as he doesn’t want to provoke him. Obviously Marafioti is a hater and a wannabe and in the words of Negreanu, a “nut job.”

Sydney’s Rugby Team, The Roosters, In Danger of Losing Full Tilt Poker Sponsorship
April 14, 2010
Australian rugby team, the Sydney Roosters, is in quite a pickle. They may be forced by federal law to break ties with their biggest sponsor, online poker giant, Full Tilt Poker. While the team has sought legal advice concerning the matter, as Full Tilt is their largest benefactor, it may not be enough.
It seems as Australia, who foresaw the potential of the booming online gambling industry, does permit Internet gambling to take place within their country, but is only marketed towards foreigners. The law does not allow Australian citizens to partake in Internet gambling whether it be online poker or online casino related activity. While the country of Australia is a gambling nation, and more of the population gambles then doesn’t, spending more of their income on gambling related activities than fuel for their cars, federal law prevents Australian citizens from participating in online gambling.
The problem is that the Australian Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 does not allow unregulated offshore gambling institutions (Full Tilt Poker) to provide services to Aussie players (the Roosters). Because of this issue, online gambling providers have gained quite a bit of attention in the Australian news recently. While the Sydney Roosters do heavily rely on the Full Tilt sponsorship, they may be unable to continue any financial relationship with the online poker club due to the national laws governing online gambling associations. Perhaps there will be some loophole or way around this, as it would be unfortunate for the loyal fans of the rugby team, and the team as well, should there be no way around these laws.
Co-Captains Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth Announce Team USA Players for World Team Poker
April 12, 2010
The Team USA lineup has been formed for the first ever World Team Poker, which will take place May 19th, 2010 at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Nevada. Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth have chosen the nine players who will represent the United States at the one-day event. The tournament will feature a $50K buy-in and 40 of the best poker professionals in the world from eight countries.
Eleven WSOP bracelet winner, Hellmuth, was named the Team USA captain, but deferred his position to Brunson. Hellmuth explains, “If (Brunson) accepts, I’m going to give him the captain jersey because he deserves it, and I’ll play the number two spot.” Ten WSOP bracelet winner, Brunson, was happy to serve as team captain.
Brunson announced his team: Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Allen Cunningham, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Erik Seidel, and Jennifer Harman. With Brunson and Hellmuth, that makes nine, six of them being members of Team Full Tilt Poker (all but Hellmuth and Duke who represent Ultimate Bet and Brunson, who is obviously with Doyle’s Room, his own self-named online poker room).
Other teams consist of Johnny Chan (co-captain with David Chiu) representing China, Captain Men “The Master” Nguyen representing Vietnam, George Kapalas (co-captain with George Theofanopoulos) representing Greece, Captain Eli Elezra representing Isreal, Jeff Lisandro (co-captains with Tony G) representing Australia, Captain Ben Roberts representing England, and Captain Juliano Maesano representing Brazil.
The World Team Poker tournament will be a 5-table shootout with Limit Hold ‘em, Pot Limit Omaha, and No Limit Hold ‘em rounds. The final two players to survive each shootout will go on to participate in the final table showdown. What makes this all the more interesting though, is that the team captains will have the ability to switch out players throughout the event, which will make for a more developed team strategy that is new to poker. Captains will most likely match up their players based on expertise and experience in different game types. This twist should make for some exciting poker, which will be aired on television.

Casino robbery in France
April 7, 2010
Just last week, an armed robbery happened at the Le Pharaon Casino in France when a group of four masked men burst into a crowded casino. They were geared with Kalashnikov assault rifles and even fired two shots at the ceiling.
All this happened in a mere 3 minutes, by the end of which the thieves stole a hefty 28,000 euro. This was reported by the police who are investigating the casino location in the central city of Lyon. The casino also happens to be close to the Interpol headquarters which is also the international police agency.
It seems the armed men made use of an angle grinder to break into the cashiers’ area while a fifth person was waiting outside in a black BMW.
Luckily no one in the crowd was hurt but two of the security guards on attendance suffered minor injuries.a
