Tom “durrrr” Dwan not accepted in the Poker Hall of Fame
September 10, 2009
To be voted into the Poker Hall of Fame is probably the greatest honor that you can get as a poker player and only the best of the best will manage to be voted in.
This year there are nine players on the list of players that have been nominated for the Hall of Fame. The player who gets voted in this year will join players like Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim and Wild Bill Hickock.
The nine players that have been nominated this year are:
- Barry Greenstein
- Phil Ivey
- Mike Sexton
- Daniel Negreanu
- Men “The Master” Nguyen
- Tom McEvoy
- Dan Harrington
- Erik Seidel
- Scotty Nguyen
From the beginning it was meant to be ten players as Tom “durrrr” Dwan was meant to be one of the candidates but some people thought that he did not fill one of the criterias for being nominated, namely the criteria to have stood the test of time.
The criterias for being nominated to the Poker Hall of Fame are:
- A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
- Played for high stakes
- Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
- Stood the test of time
- Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results

In my opinion it was probably correct to exclude Dwan this year. He is still young and he must prove that he can actually stand the test of time. It would be unfair towards the other nominated players if exceptions would be made for Dwan just because he is one of the best players at the moment.
With that being said I still hope that he will be nominated for the Poker Hall of Fame in a couple of years when he has proven himself worthy of this honor.
